Counselling and Psychotherapy are basically “talking therapies” and the two terms are often used interchangeably. However, psychotherapy training is a longer and more in depth training, with more rigorous requirements than counselling training, especially with regards to the amount of personal therapy and supervised practice. Psychotherapists are able to help with deeper and more complex issues as a result of this. UKCP registered Psychotherapists are trained to Masters level.
